“We chose Luss in Loch Lomond as it is the ancestral home of the Colquhoun Clan and as I was a Colquhoun I couldn’t have had the wedding anywhere else! Luss is a place that is held very close to my family’s heart and we have visited the village and the church many times.  I always secretly held one promise to myself since being a small child and that was to marry in Luss Church and luckily my groom loved Luss and agreed! The wedding reception was at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel which used to be the Colquhoun Arms hotel and again as a family we visited the hotel many times together, so it was much to my delight when they reopened as a wedding venue! The venue was perfect as we wanted to keep things rustic, laid back and simple but a bit quirky and this is definitely what the venue is.”

“I loved every minute of being creative and planning all of the little details for the day. Most of the room detailing was hand made by mother and I and we searched many markets and charity shops for items which would suit our vintage theme.”

“I’m very lucky to have a super organised husband and he played a huge part in the planning of our wedding.  Jonny arranged the booking of the church and continuously spoke with the church to arrange the detail of the wedding day.  He arranged all of the music for the church and wedding breakfast and delegated jobs to family and friends on the day to make sure things ran smoothly. He also booked our singer, Annabel Pattinson for the evening entertainment.  Jonny was also the budget controller/savings planner for our wedding and at the time I used to laugh at his detailed excel spread sheet which were down to the penny, but without this we wouldn’t have had the wedding we wanted!”

“I looked for inspiration online at first to get a taste of what designers I liked and I actually found my dress quite quickly which is very unusual for me! After a few dress trying on marathons, I found a hidden gem of a bridal boutique in the small village of Wingate in the north east of England and they were amazing! They understood my style and what I wanted and we worked together to find a dress. I choose a dress by the New York designer Madeline Gardner from her Mori Lee collection.  Her dresses are so simple and elegant with minimal fuss which is exactly what I wanted. The dress was delicate alencon crystal beaded lace with an off the shoulder neckline.  The waist was accented with a removable crystal beaded satin belt that added the perfect amount of sparkle the evening reception.”

“The ceremony was religious but light hearted and we smiled, laughed and cried throughout. We wanted the ceremony to be enjoyable and not too heavy so chose up beat hymns “Jerusalem” and “Give me joy in my heart” that would get everyone singing. We chose the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams to walk out of the church to and everyone danced up the aisle and out of church.”

“The best part the day was having all our family and friends together in one place. As the wedding was away from home all of our guests stayed the full weekend and we really made a party of it.  There was a magical joyous atmosphere which is certainly reflected in our pictures as there is not one photo where our guests aren’t beaming and smiling from ear to ear.”

“My favourite detail of the day of the day was seeing the room set up and details all come together.  My mother is the most creative amazing woman I know and we planned all the details to perfection.  I had searched all over for vintage fabric chair sashes to tie around the chivari chairs but I couldn’t find the fabric that would create the look I wanted. One of my all time favourite fabrics is Broderie Anglaise and after months of searching suppliers and not getting anywhere my mother kindly agreed to make all 70 chair sashes in Broderie Anglaise! We wrapped jam jars in lace and burlap and we bought mis-matched birdcages for the centrepieces filled with gypsophillia and sweet avalanche roses. We hired in vintage crockery from the Damson Cup and our favours were personalised “let love brew” tea bags which we found on ebay so the guests could enjoy a nice cup of tea and cake after the meal. The cake carried on the vintage theme with a large birdcage cake to match our centre pieces and then lots of beautiful cupcakes with intricate vintage detailing all set out on old wine crates.”

“I tried to take the whole day in and savour every moment but my clearest memory of the day is the church and the ceremony. Pulling up to the church and hearing the bag pipes was amazing. I was so proud to be walking down Luss Church Aisle with my Dad and I will always remember that moment for the rest of my life. We had a surprise guard of honour coming out of the church as The Colquhoun society were having a battle re-enactment in the village over the Easter weekend and they wanted to do something in honour of me being a Colquhoun Bride,  which was a lovely moment and a total shock!”

“Stay true to your own style and vision of your wedding day and you won’t have any regrets! Take others opinions and advice on board but always stick to what you want. When making a decision step back and sleep on it and don’t get too stressed as everything will come together perfectly! (I didn’t listen when everyone told me this but it’s very true).”
