Engagement shoots - I've said it before and I'll say it again; they are so worthwhile! I love Emma & Kris' outdoor shoot from Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow, I caught up with Gail from Rooftop Mosaic who filled me in on the day and the benefits of completing a shoot like this before the wedding!
"Normally I’ll ask the couple if there is anywhere important to them and if not I’ll suggest some places that I think are cool and provide us with different locations that aren’t too far apart. Although Emma and Kris were living in Aberdeen at the time and planning their wedding which was taking place near Kris’ family home in Alloa, they were actually coming through to Glasgow to visit Emma’s make-up artist for a trial before the wedding. So we decided it would be a good idea to do their Engagement Shoot at the same time! I suggested some locations to them and they decided on Kelvingrove Park."
"Kelvingrove is such a huge space and really provided us with lots of different areas that we can go to. So even though I was in the same part of the park as a previous engagement shoot I still managed to find lots of new areas for photos! We met up on a weekday just after lunchtime, to give us a decent chance of some privacy. We wandered round a few different locations in the Park and I gave Kris and Emma a bit of direction on where to go and how to interact with each other. This is really good practice for your wedding day as it will really be the only part of the day where I am directing you slightly. However I always try and rely on a couples natural interaction with each other and an engagement shoot provides me with a sneaky chance to do this before the wedding day!"
"Couples always tell me how beneficial the engagement shoot was and notice that they become much more relaxed as the shoot goes on. Then on their wedding day it’s really easy for me to remind them of the things we did on their engagement shoot and it means we can get really good couple shots in a small amount of time, allowing them maximum time with their friends and family on their wedding day."
"Engagement shoots are always really relaxed in nature and I’ll usually grab a coffee with the couple afterwards and have a chat about their wedding day plans. As I was chatting with Emma and Kris on the day it turned out that Emma had accepted a job offer in Glasgow and they would be moving there after the wedding, so their shoot became a great wee welcome to Glasgow! We were really fortunate with the weather that day - miraculously it was warm, dry and sunny! Go Scotland!"
Emma and Kris were delighted with their photos, "We love them – thank you so much. P.S. we can’t stop looking at them. They’re lovely!” and I'm sure you will be too if you decide to have an engagement shoot, it's another fun part of wedding planning that really helps you and your photographer on your wedding day, and let's you get back to your family, friends and champagne sooner!
You can catch Gail on Facebook, Twitter and on her website. Check out her Pinterest too for some inspiration for your engagement shoot and wedding photos! Thanks to Emma and Kris for letting us share their romantic, natural photos! I'm sure they will be looking at these with happy memories for many years to come!
