jilly + dave | bogbain farm

Jilly and Dave were married on 1st August 2015 at Bogbain Farm, Inverness. My family and I were lucky enough to be guests at their wedding and we had a ball! They got engaged on 30th July 2014 and spent about a year planning the wedding. Thank you so much to Steven from Steven Gallagher Photography for sharing his images of the day, and to Barry from Wordly Nomad Films for sharing their highlights film. You can catch Steven on his websiteFacebook and Instagram. You can find Barry on his website and Facebook.

"We had been to the whisky festival and music festivals there and always loved it. As soon as we went to visit it as a possible wedding venue we knew it was the place for us."

" Our favourite part of planning was definitely getting to taste the wedding cake samples (Dave); the salted caramel was immense! Jilly liked planning all the little details that would make the wedding ours."

"Dave was very involved with the planning. He found the caterers and the videographer. Mostly he was happy for me to choose all the smaller details but started to get into the theme and even bought some flamingo straws and napkins when he was in Edinburgh for work one day."

"Luckily there are some amazing bridal shops in the Highlands, so I knew I wouldn't have to go to Glasgow or Edinburgh to find my dream dress. I found my dress in the fourth shop I went to. I always thought that people exaggerated when they said that they "knew it was the one" when they tried their dress on, but I loved it straight away! I tried a few Stella York dresses on and they were all beautiful but the one I chose just felt amazing. I didn't want to take it off! It had a sweetheart neckline, lots of sparkly beading, lace straps and a low back. I liked how it was very fitted to my thighs and then flared out."

"After being guests at a few humanist weddings we knew that we wanted to have a similar ceremony. After booking our venue we started looking for a humanist to marry us, but everyone was already booked up! One humanist put us in touch with Judith who is an interfaith minister. We spent time with Judith to put together a very personal, non-religious ceremony that told our story as a couple. It was perfect."

"It is so hard to choose a favourite part of the day. My stand out moments are my Dad seeing me in my dress for the first time, walking down the aisle towards Dave, going to have our photos taken in a nearby field and all the dancing at night. Dave's favourite parts were the ceremony, doing his speech and the meal. The caterers cooked all the food on site in an army kitchen. One guest at each table had to don an apron and serve the food to their table. Our guests are still talking about how amazing the food was."

"My favourite detail of the day was our bright colour scheme. It was so much fun looking for and making things to add to the theme. The brightly coloured bouquets were gorgeous. For dessert we had a pudding table that family and friends contributed to. It was such a memorable detail from the day and our guests loved it."

"My clearest memory of the day is in the evening when Dave and I sneaked away for ten minutes alone. It was the first time all day that we were completely alone and we were able to have a chat, compare notes and have a shot of tequila! I would definitely recommend that all couples do this on their day. It is very overwhelming being the centre of attention all day and ten minutes alone together is much needed!"

Jilly and Dave's first dance was a special version of Katy Perry's 'Firework' by the band Prides (who I love!). AWESOME.

"Another recommendation is to get a videographer. Heather gave us this advice and we are so glad we took it. Watching the video makes us smile so much and brings back all the amazing memories of our day. It can be a big expense but is totally worth it and you will have it always."

"We would highly recommend Catherine's (The Garden Cakery) cakes; they are absolutely delicious. She spent lots of time with us discussing different flavours and delivered samples for us to try. She delivered the cake to our venue on the morning of our wedding and liaised with the caterers to ensure they knew how the cake should be cut."
