Jillian and David were married on 8th July 2015 on Scarista Beach, Isle of Harris. It took them ONE WEEK to plan! "In total it took us about a week to make all the arrangements. We already knew we wanted to elope before we got engaged." Huge thanks to the lovely Rosie from Love Skye Photography for sharing her images of this sweet family elopement. You can contact Rosie on her website, Facebook or Instagram.
"We had previously visited Harris on holiday and fell in love with the island. Harris has the most stunning beaches and mountains- it looks amazing regardless of the weather, although we were incredibly lucky on the day!"
"For us, the most important thing was getting married. Neither of us enjoy being the centre of attention nor did we want the stress and expense of a big wedding. It seemed the most obvious and romantic choice to just run away without telling anyone and do it ourselves!"
"Definitely choosing a wedding dress was my favourite part of planning. Many hours were spent on Pinterest searching for inspiration!"
"Normally when planning a wedding you would meet with people such as your photographer and celebrant before making a booking with them. We didn’t have this opportunity so it was a bit of a gamble choosing people we wanted to work with based on emails and the odd phone call! We were incredibly lucky, however in that everyone involved in our day was lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful."
"David was not very involved in planning, there wasn’t really much to do! David’s main task was choosing his own outfit which he hired from Celtic Clothing in Stornoway."
"I knew I didn’t want a formal wedding dress but had difficulty finding something that I liked within budget. Finally I came across Free People who have some beautiful dresses. I ordered it online and knew right away when I tried it on that it was the right choice!"
"We had a Humanist ceremony. We were fortunate enough to have John Howieson as our celebrant who was fantastic and very supportive throughout the whole process."
"Getting married barefoot on the beach with our two girls, Tara our dog and the waves crashing on the sand was my favourite part of the day. Perfect!"
"On the morning of the wedding I drove to Horgabost to pick the flowers for my bouquet. It was at that point the realisation hit me of what was about to happen!"
"Book a good photographer. They will be the only photos you have and will help you remember all the little details of the day."
Venue: Scarista Beach followed by champagne and canapes at Scarista House
Photographer: Rosie Woodhouse from Love Skye Photography
"Everyone that we worked with was exceptional. John Howieson our celebrant helped us write the ceremony and was always at the other end of the phone if we had any problems. Rosie our photographer just fitted in with our family and worked around us despite the fact we didn’t have a schedule. And of course the staff at Scarista House who unexpectedly laid on champagne and canapes after the ceremony."
