sam + nathan | crail seaside garden

Sam and Nathan were married on 20th June (just exactly a year ago, happy first anniversary guys!) in beautiful Crail; East Neuk of Fife.  Their ceremony was in Sam's parents garden (lucky!) and reception in the Community Hall.

I just LOVE everything about their wedding and all the images that Ingrid and Alex from The Drawing Room have captured! You can catch them on their website, Facebook or Instagram.

"We were probably planning our wedding for the best part of 9-12 months.  It was so much fun, I love organising a party so I really enjoyed it."

"Picking the venue was easy! We wanted our wedding to be true to us and a wee bit different and Crail was a winning choice as it means a lot to our family, it’s beautiful and peaceful and it is by the sea.  We also wanted our guests to experience the hidden gem in Scotland."

"It was a family affair and everyone got involved, which I loved.   My mum and dad were amazing and had some great ideas, they worked so hard to get their garden ready and helped with everything.  Everyone chipped in; my brother was the master of ceremony and organised the bar, my mother in law made the bunting, my mum, aunt and close friends made the canapés, it was great fun!"

"Luckily Nathan and I had a clear idea about what we wanted, so he trusted me to get on with the planning.  He was a great sounding board.  We have a toddler and we were in the middle of a house renovation when we got married, so he did a great job looking after our son and the builders through the planning process!

"I was very lucky with my dress.  My mum and I both fell in love with the first dress I found, it was a very simple dress by Sassi Holford, but unfortunately the price tag meant it was unaffordable.  I was searching online for a second hand dress and couldn’t believe it when I came across the exact dress in my size and it was brand new.  I ordered it straight away. It was perfect.  It needed a couple of small alterations, which were done by Adrina and her team at Fabricated Alterations."

"We decided on a Humanist ceremony, which was perfect.  We wrote our own vows, we designed the entire ceremony ourself – we sang songs like “Who Likes to be Beside the Seaside” and “It’s a Wonderful World! – it really felt like us and it was fun and very emotional.  Our celebrant, Jane Betchel was fabulous and so supportive.  She understood what we wanted to achieve from the get-go."

"We loved everything about our day.  I will never forget walking down the garden with my dad, with the saxophonist leading us, the sun had just come through and seeing all the people we love standing there.  It was so emotional and so special, so definitely that combined with the fabulous cocktails and non-stop dancing!  Everyone was on the dance floor and it was a great party!"

"We made the day our own, from the outset we knew we wanted to do as much we could ourselves, with the amazing help and inspiration from family and friends.  The handmade signs still sit in the garden welcoming people to Crail.  My mum hung wooden hearts on the fence for our guests to sign, which now hang in the summer house, as a lovely reminder.  A local Inn donated some chalk boards to us for our seating plans!   For our favours, we asked Crail Pottery to commission a small drinking vessel for everyone!  These went down a storm, everyone loved them and it’s such a nice reminder of the day and great to see them in our family and friends houses!"

"We truly loved it all. Standing on the harbour wall in the wind getting our photos taken was fun, waving to the fishing boats going by.  The incredibly talented saxophonist, Oliver, leading the whole wedding procession through the village to the reception – now that was a memory that I won’t forget."

"Enjoy it and don’t be afraid to do what you want.  It’s very easy to get carried away but it should be an enjoyable time!  If you sort the big items first – band, food and venue, the rest will come together!"

We worked really hard to support the local businesses and suppliers.  They were all incredible.  It made the whole planning process so enjoyable.  John and Lindsey at the local hall were tremendous and helped to make it all run smoothly.

Our photographers; Ingrid and Alex, were a dream team – I couldn’t have asked for anything more.  They totally understood what we wanted to achieve from the outset and our photos are more than we expected. They capture the day perfectly.

Cat and Rob; the caterers, were so much fun. They catered in a land rover and field kitchen and provided a delicious menu full of local, sustainable produce.

Amanda at the Country Garden Flower Company delivered beautiful seasonal hand tied bouquets all grown locally in Cupar.

Aileen and Hannah did an outstanding job, making us all look presentable and joining in the madness on the morning.

Thanks to the Elements crew, we were well watered all day and night. The cocktails went down well and the staff were so helpful and friendly - making sure everyone enjoyed the party.

I feel so lucky to have stumbled across all these fabulous people.  Thank you!
