lucy + martin | garden party wedding

Lucy and Martin were married on 27th August at Eaglesham Parish Church and then celebrated in the garden of Lucy's parents house! Winning. They were planning their wedding for 6 months. Huge thanks to the oh so lovely Fiona of Fiona Watson Photography. You can catch Fiona on her website, Facebook and Instagram.

"My parents have quite a bit of land at the back of the house where they keep chickens and ducks.  We had a barn dance for my dads sixtieth.  It was such a success that since then I had my heart set on having my wedding reception here.  It’s home for me as it’s where I grew up and the out door, rustic setting was very ‘us’."

"I tried on three or four different dresses before I found ‘the one’.  I didn’t want anything too structured or fussy and I knew as soon as I put it on – it just felt so natural on me whereas the previous dresses had made me feel quite stiff. My dress was ivory lace with a scalloped v-neck line and empire waist.  The back had a large key-hole and it just felt so elegant and romantic!"

"We had a religious ceremony in Eaglesham Parish Church.  The church has a lot of family ties for me and my parents were married in the same church over thirty years ago so it was really special to be married in the same place."

"I asked Martin what his favourite part of the wedding day was and he gave the exact same answer as me – we both thought that seeing each other in the church for the first time that day was by far the best feeling.  I had been sure I was going to cry but when I saw Martin standing at the front of the church, I was just overwhelmed with love and joy (and gave myself a virtual high five for bagging the man standing up there!).  I had always thought the reception would be my favourite part of the wedding day as that’s where all the effort and planning goes in.  Don’t get me wrong, it was the best party of my life (!) but I will always remember how I felt in the church when I saw my future husband."

"Martin was really involved in the planning process.  We made all our decisions together and everything seemed to flow nicely as we were very laid back about what we wanted.  We didn’t mind about the little things and were just very excited to be getting married.  Martin spent a lot of time making tables out of old pallets for outside the marquee in hope that people could sit out if the weather allowed.  Luckily, the sun was shining and the tables were needed!"

"We had a LOT of help from family and friends and there were numerous hand-made/home-made touches.  It gave us a chance to spend more time with the people that we loved and the effort everybody put in was really touching."

"I can remember the day all very clearly.  I made a conscious effort throughout the day to soak it all up."

"I couldn’t begin to pick out my favourite detail as so much was home made!  Martins brother made the bar, my mum and auntie arranged the flowers for the table decorations, Martin made tables, I made wooden hearts to hold table names, my dad made the centerpieces from a fallen tree at Martins parents house, our next door neighbour made the cake, my cousin made the engagement ring and wedding bands as well as the beautiful champagne coupes… the list goes on!  The effort that went into all the details was greatly appreciated and we are very lucky to know such talented people!"

"There will be people that will tell you that things need to be done a certain way.  Do things your own way and think about the kind of wedding that will reflect who you are as a couple.  You want the day to be as natural as possible."

Venue: Marquee supplied by Finesse Marquees  They were great as they sourced and supplied the tables and chairs, supplied loos and a catering tent.

Band: Jim Jam Ceilidh Band

Florist:   Artisan Dried Flower Company for flowers for hair and bouquets - these arrived 4 weeks before the wedding so no fuss on the day! (Fresh flowers from my parents garden for table decorations.)

Stationery:  Paperbliss UK

Photographer: Fiona Watson Photography with Gavin Butler second shooting

Karen from Karen Wallace Jewellery spent a lot of time with Martin to get the engagement ring absolutely perfect.  Martin supplied her with photographs of the types of things we do together as a couple (hill walking and lots of water sports) so she tried to incorporate these into the engraving on the band.  She also engraved the inside of the wedding band with a quote from our favourite movie.
