Katie and Martin were married on 19th August at Sloans in Glasgow. "We started planning in January 2016 after being engaged since March 2015 but I was expecting my two little boys at the time so planning took a back seat for a wee while!" Massive thanks to Jo and Liam from Jo Donaldson Photography for sharing their images of the day with us! You can catch them on their website, Facebook and Instagram.
"There was never another venue in the running really – as soon as Martin proposed I just pictured Sloans as the place. I love the history and its so beautiful. They have been holding weddings there for over two hundred years and now we're part of that story."
"As I said to Jo and Claire our Celebrant when they asked me this question; its a beautiful old building that feels like it gives you a hug and tells you some good gossip."
"Writing the vows was a strange thing to do; planning the ceremony itself and choosing readings. It took a while to find what I thought felt 'right' but in the end I think we put together something that was emotional, honest, fitting and 'us'."
"We have both volunteered for the Humanist Society and met Claire Digance through this. I was delighted when she was available for our day – honestly she's the best of the best – book her you wont regret it. Warm, funny, erudite, stylish, the works."
"For the most part Martin was happy to go along with what I wanted but he had clear ideas as well. Martin is a really romantic person, which I knew, but I think it took a lot of people by surprise. It was his idea to have Robert Burns feature as his work is important to us both, for different reasons, and from that came all the little family touches – that we kept mostly secret! The handfasting ribbons were made from my late Papas tie & Martins late Nana's scarf . They are both very much missed and this was our way of having them there. Martin also wore his late grandfathers cufflinks and his paternal grandparents gifted us the quaich."
"I went to Wed2B at Charing Cross with my mum and Gillian, my maid of honour. They were very nice and helpful – 'the dress' was about number five that I tried on and that was it. The style is 'Lille' by Bellami. LOVED IT! STILL LOVE IT! FELT LIKE THE QUEEN OF SCOTLAND."
"Immediately after the ceremony I felt the nerves just lift and I thoroughly enjoyed my day after that! Dancing to Metallica was a highlight. Being in the GOMA was incredible. Seeing my wee boys run down the aisle towards me with the kilts swinging was magic. Arrgggh it was all great."
"Our favours were handmade by a lovely manager from my work. I am a social worker and was really touched that she offered to make tablet for us- OMG it was incredible. Our table names were important places from our life together and styled like vintage travel posters. I collected decanters and put tiny string lights in them for our table decorations. The amazing Betty Bluebell did the rest! We had loads of other wee touches; sweetie table, parents photos of their weddings, card post box, light up bottles. I squirrled away lots of props and had an idea of little lights everywhere – it worked!"
"We had a petting zoo! I didn't tell anyone about this and just booked it! It was a hit! I sorted out my own props and a frame for our photobooth and this went down really well - cone hats obviously – when in Glasgow!"
"My clearest memory is Andrew and Keir running towards their mummy and daddy down the aisle and us four having a big hug."
"Have your day your way. Don't want traditional poems or music? Don't have it. Don't let people pressure you into anything ! The 'legal bit' of the words you must say are seconds long. The bit of paper needs you two, two witnesses and the person who married you. The rest is yours. Make it count . Make it yours."

"I can honestly say that start to finish, I had a team of amazing, creative and locally based people who helped me create my day exactly as I wanted it. It was important to me to have a 'Glasgow' feel to my day and it was a grey rainy day outside but a glowing warm welcome inside so I think that's about right. I cannot thank them all enough."
