a blank canvas scottish wedding at the barn at barra castle

Ellie and Gary were married on 7th July at The Barn at Barra Castle. They were planning their wedding for just over a year although they got engaged in 2014. Huge thanks to lovely lady Zoë from Zoë Alexandra Photography for sharing her images of the day with us. You can find Zoë on her website, Facebook or Instagram.

“We wanted a 'blank canvas' venue which was pretty enough in its own right that we didn’t have to do too much to it. When we booked the venue – it was still a farm shed and we were absolutely delighted with the finished article. We wanted somewhere new that no one else had been to and somewhere that was close to home. We live just twenty minutes away, in Turriff.”

“My favourite part of the planning was the fun things like organising the flowers, doing the meal tasting and wedding dress shopping.”

“Gary was involved whenever he wanted to be. He's a Designer so did the whole 'branding' for our wedding in terms of invites, place settings, menus and table plan.”

“I tried on a lot of dresses – I probably went to about ten shops and I fell in love with one which was well out of my budget. But finally I found two more that I loved and chose one which I'm so happy with. It was a Kenneth Winston dress from Wedding Daze in Nairn. It’s the same shop as my sister got her wedding dress – and weirdly my dress was in the same position in the window as her dress was a few years ago!”

“We had a Humanist ceremony with hand fasting and poems from two of my cousins which was lovely.”

“We had a polaroid camera and a little display with names for people to replace with a photo of them – we love this and it made sure we got photos of everyone.”

“The dancing was definitely the favourite part of the day for both of us – the band were brilliant and the dance floor was jam packed the whole night.”

“Our clearest memory is probably when our photographer Zoë took us away at night to get some images taken – this was good as it gave us time to think about the day and spend time just the two of us.”

“Just chill out and enjoy it. None of the little things matter!”
