Steph and Joe aka Mr and Mrs Bygone were married on 6th October 2020 at The Pumkpin Patch at Arnprior Farm and were planning for thirty three days! “I know! It’s been a crazy year for everyone. I always told Joe that we would get married when we’re old and grey (I thought that was super romantic) but life is short and 2020 made me realise... I want to marry him right now! I proposed quite spontaneously, no grand gestures, just a glimmer of a plan that happened to completely fall into place.”
Thank you so much to Jo + Liam for sharing the memories of this day with us. You can find these two on their website, Facebook and Instagram.
"Joe is OBSESSED with Halloween! Every day is Halloween in Bygone HQ so what could be better than a pumpkin patch. Obviously, everything had to be outdoors because of restrictions so it was perfect.”
"The whole thing was pretty rushed and we were very restricted in what we were allowed to do (COVID and that) . Our favourite part was probably telling our suppliers our chaotic plan and them being totally onboard with it. Many of our suppliers were friends that we’d worked with for years so sharing the experience with them was really special. We wanted zero waste, so used vintage and ethical choices which all our suppliers were more than on board with.”
"Joe and I are always a team. We compliment the others crazy and balance each other out. To be totally honest though, there was very little planning. We trusted our pals/suppliers knew us well enough so we just went with their judgement.”
"All of Joe’s get up was vintage and mostly things he already owned (except his sexy new glasses). I realised that I had no time for anything bridal or bespoke so had planned on wearing a jumpsuit. When I told my Mum about the wedding she casually mentioned her wedding dress (that I had always been completely obsessed with). Ali’s Le May took my mama’s forty eight year old dress and re-imagined the bodice/skirt to suit my taste and figure. It was serendipity, not only did I get to wear a garment that meant the world to me but it turns out I’m the third bride to rock that dress. I wonder who will be the fourth?!”
"We had a Humanist ceremony. It was perfect, full of little details, stories and nods to things that we both love. Our family humming ‘dun, dun, da-dunnnnn’ as I walked down the ‘aisle’ (grass and hay bails); that was really special.”
“We loved all the spontaneous moments that happened... the whole day was very short and outdoors so we didn’t really have a rigid timetable. We had to run into a huge sheep pen right after the ceremony when it started raining. We popped champagne and then the speeches just happened on top of a picnic bench. It was perfect, my nephews even got up and spoke. Nothing prepared, just from the heart. And my Dad actually getting to walk me down the aisle. That was everything to me. He’s had a tough few years with his health so I think it meant the world to him too. Lastly but much to everyones delight - Dough Man’s Land made Joe’s dream of having pizza on his wedding day a reality too!”
"I guess we didn’t really have time to think of the little details. Everything ended up being very personal to us- my nephew made the wedding cake, the first dance was on a hill and played on a blue tooth speaker (provided by Dough Man’s Land last minute) and we wore family wedding rings (mine was my Nannas - my personal hero). I also made a special patchwork quilt to mark the occasion. There were loads of things that we would have loved to do but honestly, we just wanted to be married.”
"Just one memory?! Here’s a few... morning coffee in the hot tub together, talking about the day ahead. Watching my family run to their car for umbrellas midway through the ceremony. Being in the same space as my family for the first time in seven months (that’s a big one). Joe’s face throughout the ceremony. Prancing around with Jo + Liam recreating our favourite scenes from the movie JoJo rabbit.”
"Do it your way! If you want a Star Wars theme- do it! If you want a bouncy castle- do it! If you want whatever- it’s your day, big or small, prioritise what’s important to both of you.”

"We were blown away by all our suppliers. In thirty three days, during restrictions, EVERYONE bent over backwards to make our wedding happen. This is really a love letter to the industry. We’ve worked in weddings for seven years and it has always been about one thing... love. Love for your work, your partner, your passion, your craft. We have met so many amazing people through Bygone and now that we’ve experienced our own wedding our love and admiration for everyone in the industry has grown so much deeper. It’s a really intimate experience to be a part of a couples wedding day and that’s something we are all grateful for.”
dreamy micro wedding at the dark sky observatory in ayrshire
Rob and Rosie were married last January at the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory in East Ayrshire, before the word ‘pandemic’ dictated our every move. Yes micro weddings did happen before and they are awesome! Huge thanks to the lovely Zoë Alexandra for sharing her images with us. You can find Zoe on her website, Facebook and Instagram.
A million thanks to our fabulous Cat of Fin Flükra for describing this gorgeous day. You can find Cat on her website, Facebook and Instagram.
Rosie and Rob were keen to have a wedding which reflected them as both as a couple, they are both quite shy and don't like big crowds. They picked an unconventional non-wedding venue as it meant something to them and their passions as a couple. Perhaps the greater highlight was that their family dog Freya was allowed to attend and took on the important role as ring-bearer. They had less than twenty guests and their ceremony late in the day and then celebrated with their family and friends with drinks before enjoying all that the Dark Sky Observatory has on offer including the Planetarium and mammoth telescope.
Rosie wore a navy blue dress adorned with a map of the stars she found on EBay and their cake cutting was done alongside Neil Armstrong! The celebrations ended at 9pm giving the couple plenty of time together to enjoy time together. The day was laid back, relaxed and truly reflective of them.
Cat has shared her wisdom about micro weddings with us, "What’s a micro wedding, I hear you ask? Put simply, they’re a wedding that’s between an elopement and a big wedding. Typically, micro weddings are made up of twenty people or less. These types of weddings are gaining ground as that’s the most viable way for couples to hold a wedding in the earlier part of 2021 due to Covid restrictions. However, micro weddings have been around for a long time and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Be sure to read my blog Creative Micro Weddings: Practical Advice.”
